Španović’s journey in athletics began at a young age, and she quickly showed promise in the long jump event. She made her international breakthrough in 2009 when she won a silver medal at the European Athletics U23 Championships. Since then, she has consistently performed at a high level in international competitions.

One of Španović’s most significant achievements came in 2013 when she won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, setting a Serbian record of 6.90 meters. She went on to defend her European Indoor title in 2015 and 2017, solidifying her status as one of the world’s top long jumpers.

In 2016, Španović competed at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she won a bronze medal, becoming the first Serbian track and field athlete to win an Olympic medal. She continued her success in major championships by winning silver medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships and the 2016 and 2018 European Championships.
